Ithaca Men's T&F Team Claims Sixth Consecutive Empire 8 Outdoor Title
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College men’s track & field team tallied 230 points to outscore the second-place team by 104 points and claim its sixth consecutive Empire 8 Outdoor Championship crown on Saturday at Butterfield Stadium. The Bombers have won eight of the nine championships contested in conference history.
Ithaca earned 15 all-conference honors by virtue of seven first- and eight second-place finishes.
The Bombers, who hit five ECAC qualifiers on the day, claimed one-two in four events.
Senior Dan Craighead and junior Nathan Bickell each hit ECAC qualifiers in the 5,000-meter run. Craighead won the event in 15:14.41 and Bickell ran second in 15:14.60.
Sophomore Brennan Edmonds qualified for ECACs in the 400 hurdles with a first-place time of 55.84, while senior Jusan Hamilton did so by winning the hammer throw with a 49.14-meter heave.
Ithaca’s first-place 4x100 relay of freshman Rashaad Barrett,
Edmonds, senior Doug Koury and sophomore Jake Willis clocked the ECAC qualifier in 43.25.
Freshmen Mason Mann and Niko Athanasatos finished first and second, respectively, in the 800 run with times of 1:59.07 and 2:00.71.
Junior Billy Savage won the 1,500 run in 4:14.83 and freshman Dennis Ryan followed in second place with a time of 4:15.36.
Junior Brian Maley won the long jump with a mark of 6.34 meters and freshman Trevor LaMountain took second with a 6.17-meter jump.
Placing second on the track was freshman Matt Femia in the 400 dash with a time of 50.16, senior Tyler Murray in the 3,000 steeplechase with a 10:05.23 finish and the Bombers’ 4x400 relay of Mann, sophomore John Luis Damaskos, junior Julian Orenstein and Athanasatos. The relay clocked a 3:30.25 finish.
Sophomore Emmett Dresler finished second in the javelin with a 49.64-meter toss.
The Bombers will next compete on Tuesday, April 24 when they host the Ithaca Quad Meet.
