Nazareth defeats Alfred, 7-2
ALFRED, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth won five of six singles matches and two doubles contests Wednesday as the Golden Flyers defeated Alfred in an Empire 8 Conference men's tennis match, 7-2.
Nazareth improved to 7-9 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8. Alfred is 10-7 overall and 3-4 in conference matches.
Sophomore Nick Lord rallied at fifth singles to win in a third-set tiebreaker. After dropping the first set 4-6, he came back to take the second set 6-3 and won the tiebreaker 10-8. Juniors Ryan McCormick and Jeremy Mancus each won in straight sets at first and third singles respectively. Sophomore Erik Manske and freshman Zach Morley also took straight set wins at fourth and sixth singles.
Nazareth also gained points at first and second doubles. McCormick teamed with junior Bret Beaver for an 8-3 win at first doubles while Mancus and Manske won by the same score at second doubles.
