Wilkes-Barre, Pa. - The Ithaca softball team (18-11) swept a doubleheader at King's (24-8) on Thursday, winning 4-0 in the first game and 9-0 in five innings in the second game. Ithaca allowed just three hits in each game and didn't commit an error on the day. The Bombers host Alfred on Saturday and Buffalo State on Sunday, and both doubleheaders are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

It was the first time that Ithaca has posted back-to-back shutouts since March 14, 2011, when Ithaca defeated Concordia (Wis.) and Wisconsin-Stout on the team's spring trip. It was Ithaca's first doubleheader shutout sweep of the same opponent since blanking Stevens Institute of Technology twice on April 3, 2010 at Kostrinsky Field.

The Bombers scored three times in the second inning and added another run in the fifth. A double by sophomore first baseman Sydney Folk and an RBI triple from sophomore second baseman Julianne Vincent brought in the first run. Junior catcher Lindsey Johnson followed with another double to bring in Vincent, and then scored on a sacrifice bunt by junior outfielder Adrienne Walters. Freshman shortstop Francesca Busa singled in Walters for Ithaca's run in the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Sam Bender earned the complete game victory, allowing just three hits and two walks over seven innings, with eight strikeouts. She is 8-5 on the season.

Jillian Olmstead pitched the win in relief of Bender, who threw the first inning. Olmstead allowed two hits and walked none in four innings with four strikeouts, and is 10-6 on the year. Ithaca started quickly with three runs in the first inning and added five more in the third. Another run in the fifth clinched the win, which was shortened due to the eight-run margin rule.

The Bombers totaled 12 hits, led by Vincent who was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Folk and junior Molly O'Donnell each had two hits including a triple.
