ONEONTA, N.Y. (April 25, 2012) – The nationally ranked No. 10 Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team cruised to a 17-4 victory at Hartwick College in an Empire 8 conference matchup Wednesday afternoon. Stevens improves to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference behind 14 combined points from senior attack Alex Hofrichter (Terrance Park, Ohio) and sophomore attack Charlie Cronin (Northampton, Mass.).

Cronin led the way for the Ducks, recording six goals on six shots and an assist, while Hofrichter dished out five assists to go along with two goals in the fourth consecutive win for Stevens.

Stevens opened up the scoring in the first two minutes of the game after Hofrichter finished off a pass from junior midfielder Rich Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J.). The Hawks answered right back to knot the early contest up at one a piece, but the Ducks would go on a 10-0 run over the next 19:04 of game time to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Dupras began the 10-goal run with 9:35 left in the first period off an assist from senior attack Kevin Rose (Garden City, N.Y.). Cronin and junior midfielder Nicolas Philippi (Mullica Hill, N.J.) netted the next six goals for the Ducks to account for the final five scores in the opening frame and the first tally of the second quarter.

Junior midfielder Harrison Dorne (Morristown, N.J.) picked up first of three goals with 12:08 remaining in the second to put Stevens ahead, 9-1, on Hofrichter’s second assist. Cronin then posted his fourth goal of the half on another Hofrichter helper just over a minute later, before Rose found Dorne with 6:31 left in the second to cap off the run.

The Hawks got back on the board with 4:51 to go in the half but Stevens would score the last goal of the quarter in the waning seconds on Philippi’s fourth and final goal.

Dorne would notch the only man-up goal of the contest to begin the final 30 minutes of play on another Hofichter assist to give the Ducks a 13-2 advantage. The final four goals of the game for Stevens would be scored by Hofrichter, Cronin twice and freshman attack Liam McAdams (Mendham, N.J.). Hartwick ended the goal with the final goal as time expired.

Sophomore long stick midfielder Tim Culloty (Mahwah, N.J.) paced the Ducks with eight groundballs and handed out an assist, while senior defender Matt Marks (Cortland, N.Y.) picked up four groundballs and added one helper.

Freshman Matthew Deiner (Millstone Twp., N.J.) started in cage for the Ducks and earned his second victory of the season with 11 saves in 51:31 of action. Deiner only allowed three goals before junior Ben Shaffer (Armonk, N.Y.) played the final 8:29.
