Golden Flyers win three singles matches; two doubles matches

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth defeated Hartwick five matches to four matches to defeat the Hawks in a men's Empire 8 Conference tennis match on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Flyers claimed three singles matches and two doubles matches for the victory. Junior Ryan McCormick and sophomores Nick Lord and Erik Manske# won their singles matches for the Golden Flyers.

Following the victory, Nazareth improves to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in conference matches. Hartwick falls to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in Empire 8 matches.

At first singles, McCormick swept Jeff Boyd 6-1, 6-1. Manske also defeated Bobby Amberson at fourth singles by the score of 6-1, 6-1. After dropping the first set 4-6, Lord rallied to down Will Gilbraith 6-3, 6-1. Hartwick's Peter Dumas defeated junior Bret Beaver 6-0, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 at second singles. The Hawks were also victorious at third singles and sixth singles. Marcelo Navarro defeated junior Jeremy Mancus (6-3, 6-3) at third singles while Brian Redder knocked off freshman Zach Morley (6-2, 6-2) at sixth singles.

In the doubles matches, the Golden Flyers were victorious at second and third doubles. The tandem of Mancus and Manske knocked off Nacarro and Redder 8-4, and freshman Matt Jennings teamed with Lord to defeat Ron Lambertson and Amberson 8-3. Boyd and Dumas defeated McCormick and Beaver at first doubles by the score of 8-5.
