Elmira Sweeps Penn Tech in Shutout Victories

Elmira, NY – The EC Softball Team earned two shutout victories against the Pennsylvania College of Technology, 15-0 and 10-0, Wednesday at Eldridge Park Stadium. The wins improve the Soaring Eagles to 6-2, while the Wildcats fall to 1-11.
 
In Game 1 the Soaring Eagles dominated right from the start scoring a season-high 10 runs in the first inning to take the lead. Eventually EC rallied off five more runs in the next four innings to seal the 15-0 victory. Katie Dore ’15 (Manchester, ME -- Maranacook) and Alex Andrade ’13 (Fairhaven, MA -- Bishop Strong) led the EC offense in the first game. Dore went 1-for-3 from the plate contributing a two-run home run in the first inning, while Andrade went 3-for-3 from the batter’s box scoring three runs and earning three RBI’s. Also contributing to the offense were Shannon Nelligan ’14 (Poughquag, NY -- Canterbury), Megan Anderson ’15 (Little Falls, NJ -- Passaic Valley) and Ashley Watkins ’15 (Brownfield, ME -- Fryebury Academy) combining for seven hits, four runs and five RBI’s. Sarah Johnson ’15 (Sodus, NY -- Sodus) and Taylor Kent ’15 (Hinsdale, NY -- Hinsdale Central) split time on the mound in Game 1. Johnson started the game going three innings, earning two strikeouts and giving up two walks, while Kent pitched two innings giving up one hit and two walks.
 
EC continued its dominance in the second game scoring six runs in the fourth inning to secure the 10-0 win. Katie Hobson ’13 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) led the Soaring Eagles in Game 2 pitching five innings and earning six strikeouts as well as going 2-for-3 from the plate scoring a run and RBI. Also playing well were Anderson, Dore, Nelligan and Lindsay Labiendo ’14 (LaFargeville, NY -- LaFargeville). Anderson went two for three from the box scoring a run and knocking in three RBI’s, while Dore went one for three contributing two runs and two RBI’s. Nelligan went one for two in the game scoring two runs and batting in a run, while Labiendo went one for three and scored a run.
