St. John Fisher Pushes Win Streak to Five at Utica
The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team extended its win streak to five with an 11-7 victory over host Utica College on Friday afternoon. With the win the Cardinals improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Erin Ward started the scoring for Fisher just 40 second in the game on a free position shot before Melissa Leonhard scored back-to-back unassisted goals to make the score 3-0. Utica would not let the game go early on, scoring four-straight goals to take the 4-3 lead with 15:51 remaining in the first half.
The Cardinals then took over, scoring six goals in a row to take a 9-4 lead just 1:18 into the second stanza. Fisher never led at least a three-score margin the rest of the way.
Taylor Hughes led all scorers with four goals while collecting three ground balls. Leonhard finished with three goals while Ward finished with two along with two assists. Bridget Alberts and Tori Suto each had a goal to round out the scoring for the Cardinals.
Caroline Trpcevski started between the pipes, playing 45:51 with one save for the win. Molly Naylon played the last 14:09, also finishing with a save.
