Two Stevens Field Athletes Set School Records at Ramapo
MAHWAH, N.J. (April 7, 2012) – In a sixth place team finish at the Ramapo College Invitational, junior Alina Duran (West New York, N.J.) and sophomore Tiffany Evangelou (Fair Lawn, N.J.) set school records for the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track & field squad on April 7. Stevens scored 52 points, while the host, Ramapo won the meet with 136 points.
Duran placed first in the hammer throw with a school record toss of 51.13 meters (167 feet, 9 inches). She also qualified for the ECAC Championships with another first place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.60 meters (38 feet, 3/4 inches).
Evangelou finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.52 meters for a new school-best distance.
A host of Ducks took third in their respective events at the meet as well. Senior Jamie Brabston (Sparta, N.J.) recorded a time of 19:36.25 in the 5,000-meter run and junior Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.) competed in the javelin and threw a distance of 36.19 meters (118 feet, 9 inches). Fellow junior Grace Python (Glenmont, N.Y.) registered a distance of 46.58 meters (152 feet, 10 inches) in the hammer throw, while sophomore Rebecca Tylock (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cleared the bar at 3.10 meters (10 feet, 2 inches) in the pole vault to round out the third place finishes.
Sophomore Liana Grandinetti (Ocean Township, N.J.) put together strong performances in three events at the meet. Grandinetti took fifth in the hammer with a distance of 36.77 meters (120 feet, 8 inches), sixth in the discus with a mark of 30.91 meters (101 feet, 5 inches) and eighth in the shot put with a toss of 9.43 meters (30 feet, 11 1/4 inches).
