The Empire 8 announced its 2012 Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference team. The Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year will be announced next week.
Six players from top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology were named to the all-conference first team as the Ducks finished the regular season with a win at Ithaca to complete conference play 7-1.
Senior attack Alex Hofrichter repeated as a first-team selection and completed regular season conference play with 30 points on 18 goals and 12 assists. He added 12 ground balls. Junior midfielders Harrison Dorne and Rich Dupras joined Hofrichter on the first team. Dupras led all Empire 8 scorers with 38 points on 18 goals and 20 assists in seven conference games, while Dorne scored a conference-high 23 goals.
Senior defender Matthew Marks of the Ducks received first-team recognition after anchoring the team’s defense and picking up 20 ground balls. Sophomore Timothy Culloty was selected to the first team as a long-stick midfielder and junior Brian Seldeen was named to the first team as a short-stick defensive midfielder. Culloty led all long-sticks with 25 ground balls in conference play and Seldeen contributed 16 ground balls.
Four seniors from fourth-seeded St. John Fisher College received first-team all-conference recognition, including repeat selection Mitch Ritchie, who totaled 18 goals and 26 points in Empire 8 regular season play. Connor Henderson paced the Cardinals with 21 goals and 34 points. Midfielder Kyle Denhoff finished the regular season conference play with 19 goals and 25 points. Mitch Bailey picked up 15 ground balls and led the Cardinals’ defense.
Senior goalie Brendan Green and junior defender Marc Roberts of second-seeded Ithaca College garnered all-conference first-team accolades. Green posted a 6.25 goals against average in Empire 8 play with a 55.2 save percentage. Roberts scooped up 20 ground balls in seven conference games.
Senior attackman C.J. Estes of third-seeded Nazareth College was named to the all-conference first team after totaling 11 goals, 11 assists, and 16 ground balls in Empire 8 play.
Senior defenseman Mick Krajacic of Utica College earned first-team honors for the third consecutive season. He finished with 28 ground balls in conference action.
One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2012 Men’s Lacrosse Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
