Empire 8 Athlete-of-the-Week football awards were handed out for the Week of Sept. 3-9.

St. John Fisher’s Jason Beaumont earned Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two fourth quarter touchdowns to help No. 9 Fisher erase a 10-point deficit for a 28-24 win over Washington and Jefferson. Trailing 24-14 early in the fourth quarter, Beaumont connected on a 25 yard touchdown pass for a three point game. Fisher took its first and only lead of the game with 5:59 left in the fourth quarter.   On a 3rd-and-9 play from the Fisher 9, quarterback Ryan Kramer found Beaumont again, this time for a 91-yard touchdown strike down the right side line to give the Cardinals the lead. Beaumont, who transferred to Fisher last year and was a standout pitcher for the Fisher baseball team, pitching a complete-game win over eventual national-champion Marietta College in the NCAA Division III  Regionals, finished the game with 116 yards.

Fisher will return to action at 7 p.m. next Saturday and will host University of Rochester in Courage Bowl VIII.  The game is dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days and Special Times.

Joe Giametta led Utica for the second consecutive week as he totaled 16 tackles (four solo) in the Pioneers' 45-17 win over Union on Saturday. The Defensive Player of the Week  also forced one fumble, recovered a fumble and tallied a tackle for a loss. Giametta currently ranks sixth in Division III averaging 15 tackles a game.

Utica returns home on Sept. 15 to host Hobart College at 7pm.

Caesarae Lewis had four kickoff returns for 152 yards in Buffalo State’s 38-24 loss to The College at Brockport on Saturday to earn Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged 38 yards per return and posted a long of 67. He also had two punt returns for a total of 28 yards and racked up 80 yards on seven receptions for a total of 260 all-purpose yards.

Buffalo State has a tough test ahead as they travel to Whitewater, WI to take on the defending national champions at 1pm on Saturday.
