Junior forward Marguerite Chavez of the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week, while St. John Fisher’s Danielle Famolaro was tabbed the Goalie of the Week.

Chavez helped the Ducks to a 6-2 win over Houghton College in their Empire 8 opener and finished with five goals and 10 points in three games last week.

Chavez opened the week with a tally in a 4-3 loss at Drew University on September 5. She came back Saturday with a huge performance, pleasing the home crowd with four goals (eight points) in Stevens’ 6-2 win over the Highlanders. The four goals and eight points versus Houghton were both the second-most in a single game in Stevens field hockey history.

The Ducks (2--3 overall, 1-0 Empire 8) will return to action at Utica College (3-0) on Saturday in Utica, N.Y. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.

Famolaro made 27 saves in three games with a .818 save percentage as the Cardinals recorded their first win of the season. Famolaro made three stops against Brockport on Wednesday before setting a single-game record with 15 saves in 1-0 win over Susquehanna on Saturday as the Cardinals were out-shot 27-4 in the game. On Sunday, Famolaro recorded nine saves in the loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
