Jessica Bourque Named Empire 8 Player of the Week
Jessica Bourque (Houma, La.) of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week after winning the Swarthmore Invitational singles championship this past weekend. Bourque was 4-0 at the tournament as a singles player and reached the doubles final with partner
Lisa Tessitore (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.).
Bourque opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win and followed with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the second round. A 6-4, 6-0 win in the third round allowed the sophomore to advance to the finals.
In the championship match, she posted a remarkable 6-2, 0-6, 10-7 victory to secure the title.
Bourque and Tessitore won 8-4 in opening round of doubles and recorded an 8-1 win in the semifinals before dropping an 8-3 decision in the championship match. Bourque finished the weekend 4-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.
The Ducks will be back on the courts on Wednesday, September 12 in a standard dual match with Drew University in Madison, N.J.
