W&J Field Hockey Leads NCAA In Scoring

The NCAA released the Division III field hockey statistical leaders on Sept. 11 and Washington & Jefferson College is the national leader in scoring at 7.5 goals per game. W&J actually leads all NCAA divisions in scoring as North Carolina (5.26 gpg) tops Division I and East Stroudsburg (5.26 gpg) is the Division II leader.

The defending Empire 8 Conference champion Presidents (2-0) fired in 10 goals in their season opener at Bethany (9/6) before adding five goals in the league opener Saturday (9/8) at Nazareth.

Washington & Jefferson also leads the country in assists per game (4.5) and scoring margin (+6.5).   W&J’s high-powered offensive attack has been led by senior forward Arielle King’s three goals and two assists.

Other ranked teams around the Empire 8 Conference include Elmira College in saves per game with 17 to rank third.  Stevens Institute of Technology stands 10th in penalty corners with 14.40 per game, Utica College is 16th in scoring margin (+3.0) and Ithaca ranks 19th in scoring (4.50 goal per game).
