Ithaca Cross Country Ranked in Regional Poll
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the
regional Division III poll on Tuesday, September 11.
For the men, Ithaca continued to be the only ranked Empire 8 team in the region and maintained its No. 9 spot from the preseason poll.
The Bombers ran to a second-place finish out of 12 teams on Saturday Sept. 8 at the Oswego Invitational 8,000-meter run. Senior David Geary led the way for the Bombers with a fourth-place finish out of 143 runners. He finished in a personal-record time of 26:27.50. Classmate Mark Vorensky joined Geary in the top 10 with a 10th-place finish of 26:54.80. Geary was honored as the Empire 8 and ECAC Men’s Cross Country of the Week for his performance.
On the women's side, Ithaca climbs into the regional poll at number eight.
The Bomber women ran to a first-place finish out of nine teams on Saturday at the Oswego Invitational 5,000-meter run. Ithaca edged second-place Rochester by one point. Sophomore Alexa Rick, the 2011 conference rookie of the year, finished third out of 128 runners with a 19:16.60, while freshman Jaime Lisack followed in fourth with a 19:24.20 finish in her collegiate debut.
The Ithaca men’s and women’s teams will next race on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational at 11 a.m.
