Empire 8 Men's Golf Gets Set for First and Second Round

ROCHESTER, NY – The main questions entering the 2012-13 Empire 8 Men's Golf Championships clearly center around St. John Fisher College and its quest for a third-straight conference title. Who are the Cardinals top contenders this year? And can any of them stay close???

After winning last year's conference title – Fisher’s ninth since 2000 - the Cardinals enter the opening two rounds of the Championships as the No. 7 ranked team in the nation with three of its 2011 All-Empire 8 selections back on the roster.  Head coach Bob Simms’ team won last year's title by 53 shots, and with its star-studded lineup back, Fisher enters the weekend as the clear favorite to three-peat.

However, the 2012 season has seen several of the Empire 8’s top contenders take a step forward throughout the month of September, and if they can elevate their games on the conference’s biggest stage this weekend at Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, anything is possible.

The third and fourth rounds of the championship will be played at Hershey Country Club on April 20 and 21.  The Empire 8 champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship. The top five scorers at the end of the tournament will earn first-team all-conference honors with the next five finishers being named to the second team.
