NEW HARTFORD, NY—The St. John Fisher men’s golf team returned to a familiar position Sunday afternoon—to the top of the standings at the 2013 Empire 8 Conference men’s golf championships at the Yahnundasis Golf Club.
The two-time defending and 9-time champion Cardinals shot a four-score total of 291 today to erase a five-shot deficit after the opening round to take a 19-stroke lead over first-round leader Elmira College (615) and The University of Scranton (615).
Stevens Institute of Technology is fourth (656), followed by Susquehanna University (666), Nazareth College (670), Utica College (680), Moravian College (695), and Houghton College (768).
All six of St. John Fisher’s golfers broke 80 today, with Chris Blyth carding an even-par 71 to move into second place in the individual standings, three shots behind Scranton sophomore Erik Meyer, who followed up a two-under-par 69 yesterday with a 75 today for a 36-hole total of 144.
Thad Weir of St. John Fisher is in third place with a 149, including a 74 today, and Alex Todd of Elmira and Fisher’s Ryan McGinnis and Joe Radulski are tied for fourth at 150.
The final 36 holes of the 72-hole Empire 8 Conference men’s golf championship will be held during the spring semester, with the eventual team champion advancing to the NCAA Division III championships.
