Ithaca Wins 2012 Empire 8 Women's Golf Championship

Elmira, N.Y. -- Ithaca won the 2012 Empire 8 Women's Golf Championship with a team total of 679 at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira. Sophomore Sharon Li won the overall medalist honors with a two-day total of 160 and the Bombers swept all five all-conference first team honors.
Ithaca won the conference title for the third consecutive year, and the 121-stroke margin over second-place Nazareth (800) was the highest in conference history. The Bombers won the 2011 title by 100 shots. Elmira (936) finished third followed by Houghton (997) and St. John Fisher (1013).
Li posted a second-day score of 78, the best by any player over the two-round event. Junior Amanda Failla placed second overall and senior Jackie Young and sophomore Kelsey Baker were tied for third. Ithaca's fifth player, Paige Fontana, posted rounds of 91 and 89 to finish fifth overall and round out the all-conference first team.
Sophomore Jennifer Lachell shot a score of 89 Sunday to help Nazareth maintain its second-place standing. Lachell and freshman teammates Kelley Citrin and Meaghan Porter each earned second-team all-conference honors.
Lachell shot a 186 total, good for sixth place individually. Citrin was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year after posting scores of 94 and 106 for a 200 total. Porter was eighth overall with idential rounds of 101 for a 202 total.
Elmira shot a 454 on the second day led by senior Jessica Van Leuvan finished with a 94 on the second day to lead Elmira, placing ninth individually and earning a spot on the second team all-conference.
In their first taste of intercollegiate competition, Houghton finished fourth on the challenging course. The Highlanders were led by sophomore Hannah Fink (106-113-219).
Senior Katie Joslyn (105-102-207) earned second team all-conference honors as she finish 10th overall individuall to lead the Cardinals.
