Lonsky and Singleton Earn Empire 8 Weekly Honors
Hartwick freshman Katie Lonsky and Ithaca senior Kelly Singleton have been named the offensive and defensive field hockey players of the week.
Lonsky registered five goals and two assists this week in a pair of Hartwick wins. For the week, she had a hand in seven of the Hawks’ 12 tallies. On Tuesday, she scored a career-high four goals in a 7-4 victory over Morrisville State. On Saturday she scored the game-winning goal and dished out two assists in a big 5-2 win over defending Empire 8 champion Washington & Jefferson.
The Hawks head on the road to face #20 ranked Rochester on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
Singleton made 24 saves over two games with a .800 save percentage en route to earning Empire 8 Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week announced Monday.
She recorded 17 saves against #25 Cortland, her highest single-game save total in the 2012 season. On Saturday she stopped seven shots in the 4-2 conference win over Nazareth.
The Bombers will face #19 William Smith on the road Wednesday, Sept. 19 and will resume conference play Saturday at Stevens.
