Meyer Repeats As Empire 8 Conference Men's Golfer Of The Week
Sophomore Erik Meyer (Clarks Summit, PA) continues to make headlines for The University of Scranton men’s golf program as he was named Empire 8 Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for the second straight week.
Meyer fired a two-under-par 69 Saturday—his second sub-70 round of the season—and carded a 75 Sunday to take a three-stroke lead over Chris Blyth of St. John Fisher College in the first two rounds of the conference’s 2013 championships staged at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York, over the weekend.
The final 36 holes of the Empire 8 Conference championships will be held at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on April 20-21. Scranton is currently tied for second place with Elmira College, 19 strokes behind two-time defending and nine-time overall champion St. John Fisher.
Meyer currently leads the Royals of veteran head coach Ed Karpovich in strokes per round average (72.22). On September 5, in a 296-334 victory over Baptist Bible, he shot a career-low round and five-under-par 67 at the Scranton Municipal Golf Course in Mt. Cobb.
Weather permitting, the Royals will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 18 against King’s College at the Wyoming Valley Country Club in Hanover beginning at 1:00 p.m.
