The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its Athletes-of-the-Week for their performances during the week of Sept. 17-23. This week three student-athletes from the Empire 8 claimed honors.

Freshman Elizabeth Cusack (Clifton Park, NY) was named the Mid-Atlantic Region offensive field hockey player of the week. Cusack scored a goal and added an assist in St. John Fisher's 2-1 win over defending Empire 8 champion Washington & Jefferson. Fisher, playing in just its second season as an NCAA program, is 2-1 in the E8 and 4-5 overall. The Cardinals have won three straight games and have already doubled their win total from last season.

Freshman fullback Chuck Beckwith (Victor, NY) earned Northwest offensive player of the week honors. Beckwith ran for a career-high 177 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries in Alfred’s 40-17 defeat of 24th-ranked Buffalo State. Beckwith had TD runs of 51, 52 and 80 yards as the Saxons put up 401 yards on the ground against the Bengals.

The Empire 8 also had the ECAC Northwest defensive player of the week. Senior Troy Sant (Pittsford, NY) intercepted two passes in the first half and blocked a field goal in the final seconds of the second quarter, as nationally-ranked Fisher cruised to a 43-13 win over previously-undefeated Hartwick. Sant was also in on five tackles (two solo) as the Cardinals improved to 4-0. The defensive back has four interceptions on the season, which ranks second in the Empire 8 and the NCAA.
