Elston and Caruso Gain E8 Men's Soccer Honors
The Empire 8 handed out its first Men's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week awards for the 2012 season, with Nazareth's Luke Elston and Utica's Anthony Caruso winning the awards.
Elston, of Somerset, England, led the Golden Flyers to a pair of victories at the Doug May Classic over the weekend at RIT as Nazareth opened its 2012 season. Elston scored twice in the second half to break a 2-2 deadlock for a 4-2 triumph over SUNY Canton last Friday. He contributed two goals and one assist Saturday as the Golden Flyers defeated Brockport by an identical 4-2 score.
Nazareth plays its first home game Saturday against Oswego at Golden Flyer Stadium at 3 p.m.
Caruso allowed just one goal as the Pioneers opened the season with two victories this past weekend. He made three saves in the 4-1 win over Berkeley College and recorded two saves in the 2-0 shutout against SUNYIT.
Utica visits Cazenovia Wednesday for a non-conference game and is back home Saturday and Sunday to host the Utica Invitational where the Pioneers will face Medgar Evans and Lehman.
