The Empire 8 handed out its first Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week awards for the 2012 season, with Fisher's Alex Rohloff and Nazareth's Abbie Carey winning the awards.

Rohloff helped Fisher open the season 2-0 at the Cyclone Kickoff Classic held at Centenary College. Rohloff accounted for a third of her teams' goals, tallying seven points in just two games. She recorded two goals and one assist in the 5-2 win over Drew and netted one goal in the dominant 7-0 shutout against Albion.

Fisher hosts Brockport Wednesday night at 7pm before taking the weekend off.

Carey, of Gloversville, N.Y., yielded just one goal in two overtime games as the Golden Flyers opened their season with a pair of ties. Overall, Carey had seven saves on eight shots and recorded her ninth career shutout in Saturday's 0-0 tie with Oneonta.

Nazareth visits Medaille Wednesday for a non-conference game and is back home Saturday to host Brockport at 12 p.m. Saturday's game is billed as the Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure, sponsored by the Soccer Shack, with all proceeds benefitting breast cancer research.
