Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) and freshman
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) were named the Empire 8 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the week, for the week of January 7-13.
Kleso had a solid day in the pool as he helped the Hartwick men to a 177-97 victory over SUNY Cortland on Sunday. He had first place finishes in the 500 free (4:47.68) and the 100 breast (58.32). His breast time set a new Moyer Pool record and beat the previous record of 59.15. He also added a 1000 free time of 9:58.61 that was good for second place. Kleso swam a 27.47 50 breaststroke relay split in the 200 medley that helped the men take first place with an overall time of 1:37.89.
Rutigliano enjoyed a career day as she won three events on the afternoon to help the Hartwick women defeat SUNY Cortland 163-135. She won the 100 back (1:03.74), the 200 back (2:17.49) and the 200 IM (2:19.88). Rutigliano also swam a 50 backstroke split time of 29.61 in the 200 medley relay as the Hartwick women won with an overall time of 1:55.15.
The men are undefeated this season with a record of 12-0. The women have a 10-2 record. Both teams will face Empire 8 rival Alfred on Saturday at 1 p.m.
