Hartwick Upsets #20 Stevens; Elmira, Fisher and Utica all Earn Wins
Hartwick 63, Stevens 56
Hartwick overcame a 13 point deficit early in the first half and Jared Suderley hit key free throws down the stretch as the men’s basketball team defeated #20 Stevens 63-56 on Tuesday night at Lambros Arena. The Hawks, who have now won four straight games, improve to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8. The Ducks drop to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the Empire 8.
Suderley had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He went 13-of-15 from the foul line. Anthony Keane contributed 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.
Russ Thompson led Stevens with 20 points and had three assists. Patrick Sabatino scored 16 points and added three blocks, three steals, and two rebounds.
Hartwick led 45-44 with 7:17 remaing on the clock. Over the next three minutes of game time there would be six lead changes and two ties. Keane’s layup at 3:52 put the Hawks on top 52-51 and kick start a 7-0 run that saw Hartwick take its biggest lead of the game, 58-51, at 1:11. The Ducks would cut the lead to four points on a trey by Thompson five seconds later but Suderley calmly hit four straight free throws to ice the game and give Hartwick the victory.

Utica 74, Nazareth 69
The Utica College men's basketball dominated the first half of play and fended off a powerful second half comeback on its way to a key 74-69 Empire 8 Conference victory over visiting Nazareth College on Tuesday night at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.
The Pioneers connected on 22-of-26 free throws on the afternoon, while Matt Baldwin led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Aaron Nevins and junior forward Chris Jeffers each added 16 points as the Pioneers won their second straight conference contest and improved to 7-11 overall and 4-4 in the E8.
Tyshun Stephens netted 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Nazareth, while freshman Mitch Ford chipped in with 25 points and seven rebounds. The rest of the Golden Flyer contingent combined for 18 points as they dropped their third straight game and moved to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in the E8.

St. John Fisher 67, Alfred 61
The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team rallied from a three-point deficit at the half and defeated host Alfred University 67-61.
It was a back-and-forth first half that featured six lead changes and five ties. Alfred went on a 7-2 spurt late in the first half to take a 35-32 lead at intermission.
Fisher got things going in the second half, opening up the final period with a 6-0 run and never trailed again. The Cardinals led 52-50 with 9:59 left in the game, but used a 12-2 run, highlighted by three 3-pointers from Thad Wier, to take a double-digit lead at 64-54 with four minutes left. Wier finished with 15 points, including 12 in the second half.

Elmira 73, Houghton 47
The Elmira College Men's Basketball team had three players in double figures as it dominated a 73-47 win over the Houghton College Highlanders.
From the beginning the game was controlled by the Soaring Eagles who took the lead early and kept stretching it out over the next 40 minutes. In the first half of play the Highlanders played tough keeping the score within reach until the last couple of minutes when the Soaring Eagles stretched out its lead to 29-16 at halftime.
In the second half the Purple and Gold continued to dominate by using strong defense and knocking down several jumpers. EC would use the next 20 minutes of play to dictate the game and stretch out its lead to as many as 29 points before finishing off a 73-47 victory.
