Stevens Indoor T&F Nearly Sweeps E8 Weekly Awards; Fisher Takes One Honor
The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams nearly completed a sweep of the Empire 8 Conference weekly awards, taking three of the four spots. St. John Fisher claimed the remaing honor.
Two Stevens freshmen on the women’s side established new school records and qualified for the ECAC Championships with their performances last Saturday at the Wesleyan University Invitational in Middltown, Conn.
Glady Njoku cleared the bar at 5 feet, 3.75 inches in the high jump to set a new standard for the Ducks’ program and bettered her mark for ECACs. She also posted the top mark in the event.
Amy Regan set her third school record of the indoor season in as many events on Saturday in the mile race. Regan placed third overall and qualified for ECACs with a time of 5:17.91 to top the previous mark set this season by junior Kelly Freed by nearly 15 seconds. She also competed on the distance medley relay team on Friday at the Great Dane Classic in New York City and finished with a time of 12:58.52.
Senior
Andrew Kraemer, for the men’s team, prevailed in the weight throw event with a toss of 49 feet, 3.75 inches out of 17 competitors. He bested the next closest athlete by nearly four feet.
Fisher's
Eric Riley set a school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.33 seconds at the Spire North Coast Indoor Open in Geneva, Ohio to earn the Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award. He also finished second in the triple jump (12.94 meters), third in the high jump (1.93 meters) and ninth in the long jump (6.22 meters).
The track and field teams will return to action on Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference Championships, hosted by Ithaca College.
