ROCHESTER, NY –  Empire 8 Athletic Conference Commissioner Chuck Mitrano wrapped up his two year presidential term of the Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) on Thursday, Jan 17 during the 2013 NCAA Convention.

Commissioners and Assistants representing all Division III Conferences as well as NCAA staff members were present to thank him for his service, present him with a plaque and watch him pass the gavel. He will now assume the role of Past President, while Julie Muller of the North Atlantic Conference steps into the President position.

"Chuck has been an outstanding representative for the DIIICA during his presidency and it's been a pleasure to serve as his Vice President,” stated Commissioner Muller.  “His inclusive leadership style and focus on the big picture have made him a great fit for the DIIICA and Division III.”

Commissioner Mitrano has been an influential leader in the areas of sportsmanship, ethics and most recently participated in the NCAA Violence Prevention Think Tank in October 2012.

For his dedication to athletics, Commissioner Mitrano was selected as the ECAC Josten’s Male Administrator of the Year in 2008 and was recognized as the 2011 recipient of the NCAA Bob Fredrick Award, which annually honors an NCAA coach, administrator or staff member who demonstrates a history of sportsmanship.

He also moderated a hazing summit at the NCAA Convention in 2007 and was named one of the “100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America” in November 2007. The Empire 8 was also the first athletics conference in any division or level to be named an “All-American Sportsmanship Conference.”
