Fisher's D'Amato Named D3baseball.com Preseason All-American
St. John Fisher College’s Justin D’Amato has been named to the 2013 D3baseball.com Preseason All-America First Team. The left-handed pitcher returns for his junior year after being recognized as an All-American by both D3baseball.com and the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) in 2012.
Fisher, ranked 32
nd in the national baseballnews.com preseason poll, finished last year with a 31-12 overall record, tying the College record for most wins in a season. The Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Division III Regional Championship for the second time in the last three years and knocked off Marietta College, the 2011 and 2012 national champion, before finishing third overall in regional play.
A two-time Empire 8 Conference Pitcher of the Year and the 2011 Empire 8 Rookie of the year, D’Amato posted a perfect 11-0 record while setting the College record for wins and strikeouts (97) in a season last spring. The southpaw posted a team-best 2.14 ERA in a Fisher-leading 75.2 innings on the mound.
Over his two-year career at Fisher, D'Amato holds a 20-2 record while totaling 180 strikeouts and five shutouts in 145.0 innings pitched.
He enters his junior season needing just three wins and 23 strikeouts to become the College’s all-time leader in both categories.
