Campbell and Miceli Clinch Empire 8 Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
Junior Kathryn Campbell of the Ithaca College women's basketball team was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week and Utica freshman Mary Miceli was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.
Campbell led the Bombers to a 3-0 record over a four-day span averaging 13.0 points per game and chipped in 11 assists and six steals. She finished with 11 points in the Bombers 57-55 victory at Rochester, a win that snapped an 11-game winning streak by the Yellowjackets with Ithaca's last victory coming during the 1995-96 season. On Friday night, Campbell registered a game-high 19 points and four assists in a 75-39 win against Alfred. The following day, in a 48-43 overtime win over St. John Fisher, she scored nine points, adding five assists and two steals.
Two of the victories were conference wins as Ithaca retained sole possession of first place in the league.
Miceli guided the Pioneers to a 2-1 week including two crucial conference wins over the weekend against St: John Fisher and Alfred University. Over the three-game week, she averaged 19.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game to lead the Pioneers. The New Rochelle native rattled off a season-high 27 points on Wednesday against SUNYIT and followed up with a 23 point outing on Friday night versus Fisher. She capped off her all-star week with nine points, five boards and a season-best seven assists in a 82-58 rout of Alfred.
On the season, Miceli has upped her average to 11.2 points per game as she is now second on the team in scoring. She has averaged 17.2 points per contest over her last five games which is more than double her 7.5 points per game through the first eight.
Campbell and Miceli with square off on Tuesday night, January 8 at 6pm when the Pioneers host the Bombers.
