Lacrosse Magazine has released its 2013 Division III preseason rankings, and the St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team has been selected to the list.  The reigning Empire 8 Conference Champions have been picked as the No. 18 team in the nation, setting up an exciting start to the Cardinals’ season.

In just its second and third games of the year, Fisher will play Occidental College and University of Redlands who were listed as No. 20 and No. 19, respectively, by the US Lacrosse publication.  The Top 20 matchups will take place over the Cardinals’ spring training week in California, with Fisher facing Occidental on March 6th and then Redlands two days later.

The Cardinals finished the 2012 season with a College record 15-wins and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 where they fell to eventual national runner-up Salisbury University.  Fisher returns all but two of its starters from last year and its top-six scorers, including Taylor Hughes (who posted a College record 102 points last year) and Melissa Leonhard (who finished the year with 79 points on 66 goals and 13 assists).

Fisher will open the 2013 season at 5 p.m. on March 1st, traveling to William Smith College to play the Herons.
