Utica 2, Morrisville 0
The Utica College men's soccer team converted on its third shutout in its last four games as the Pioneers topped visiting Morrisville State, 2-0, in a non-conference affair on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Tuesday night.
Utica's
Shane Ruffing and
Kevin McAllister each scored their team-best fourth goal of the season in the first and second halves, respectively. Morrisville, which entered the game having not lost in five straight contests, moved its record to 6-3-2 overall on the year.
UC got on the board in the 12th minute of the contest when Ruffing received a lead pass from senior
Jonathon Peterson and finished the scoring chance into the top left corner from about 15 yards out.
McAllister added an insurance goal for the Pioneers in the 71st minute when he took an
Anthony Fotino (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) pass, made a move to the right of his defender, and ripped a low shot past Morrisville goalie Rob Larkin into the lower right corner of the goal.
UC's
Anthony Caruso recorded his 17th career shutout to extend his program-record for shut outs in a career. Rob Larkin, from nearby Clinton, NY, stopped eight shots in the loss.
Utica earned a 17-9 advantage in the shot category and the Pioneers were awarded eight corner kicks compared to the Mustangs' two.
Roberts Wesleyan 2, Houghton 0
A goal in each half propelled the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks to a 2-0 win over Houghton College in men's soccer action Tuesday night.
The loss dropped the Highlanders to 7-1-1 on the year.
The NCAA Division II Redhawks got on the board in the 11th minute when Taiwo Aderounmo made a run down the left, moved past one Houghton defender and put a five-yard shot past keeper
Jacob Dunnett (Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Kennebecasis) The Highlanders had two chances to get the equalizer in the first half, but both point-blank shots were turned away by Roberts' keeper Florian Witte.
Witte was up to the task on another close shot late in the second half to halt another Houghton attempt to tie the game. The Redhawks the put the game away when Johnny Lobene took a cross and redirected the pass past Dunnett.
The shots for the game were even at 11 apiece. Dunnett made five saves for Houghton.
Hobart 1, Ithaca 0
The Ithaca College men's soccer team (1-7-0, 1-0-0 E8) lost a tight defensive game to Hobart (5-4) Tuesday evening, falling to the Statesmen by a score of 1-0 at Carp Wood Field. Freshman
Cobi Byrne led Ithaca with two shots on goal, while junior goalkeeper
Jordan Gentile stopped three of the four shots he faced.
Hobart scored the game's only goal in the 24th minute, converting a one-time shot in the box for a 1-0 lead. The Bombers pressured in the second half, recording 11 total shots in the second frame.
Despite the added pressure, the Bombers were unable to get on the board in 90 minutes of play. Freshman

Keuka 2, Alfred 1
The Alfred University men’s soccer team lost to visiting Keuka College, 2-1, Tuesday evening at Yunevich Stadium.
Keuka held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Freshman midfielder James Piombino tied the game at the 63rd minute off a free kick service from freshman midfielder Richard Lander. Keuka scored a late goal at the 86th minute to give them the edge as time expired.
For the game, the Saxons held a 19-6 shot advantage over the Storm.
Senior goalie Jacob Bird went the distance in net for Alfred, making two saves.
Geneseo 2, Nazareth 0
Visiting Nazareth fell to Geneseo 2-0 in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights scored one goal in the opening four minutes to claim the early lead, then they secured the victory with an insurance goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Freshman Nate Ripic tallied a career-high 10 saves for the Golden Flyers. He had recorded eight saves in contests against Cortland and Swarthmore.
Following the loss, Nazareth drops to 4-5 overall. Following the victory, Geneseo improves to 5-4-1 overall. The Knights' victory continues Geneseo's three-game winning streak.
Ryan Yurchak scored the opening goal only 3:45 into regulation. Yurchak's scoring chance was set up by Stanley Egbuchulam. It was Yurchak's third goal of the season. Egbuchulam also assisted on Craig Schackner's second goal of the season, which came with 9:45 to play in regulation to solidify the victory.
The Knights' tenacious defense held the Golden Flyers to five shots on goal.
Geneso finished with a 24-8 advantage in total shots while Nazareth had a 5-4 edge in corner kick opportunities, including a 4-1 advantage in the first half. The Golden Flyers were without senior forward Ryan Foley, who is continuing to nurse an injury. Foley still leads the team with four goals on the year, and he earned Player of the Week honors in September.
