Elmira, NY -- Over the last several days, Elmira College athletic teams have been active in the community and on campus raising awareness about breast cancer.  The EC women's soccer and cheerleading teams participated in the first annual Twin Tiers Stiletto Sprint and the women's soccer team also hosted their second annual Kick It To Cancer game.

On Friday, October 4th, both EC programs participated in the first annual Twin Tiers Stiletto Sprint, held in downtown Elmira, NY.  Members of the women's soccer and cheerleading teams did not participate in the actual stiletto race but did take part in the pink-out run to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of the Southern Tier.

"We had a great time participating in the first annual Stiletto Sprint" said head cheerleading coach Amber Myers.  "It was wonderful to see the community come together for a good cause and to have had the opportunity to be a part of it.  It was inspiring to see the effort and commitment all of the participants put into their costumes and training.  We are looking forward to participating in next year's event."

The following day EC women's soccer hosted their second annual Kick It to Cancer game in which the Soaring Eagles donned pink jerseys, tape, and shoe laces.  Over $200 was raised by taking donations at the gate of Campus Field as well as selling baked good and holding a silent auction for gift baskets.   All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of the Southern Tier.

"It was a great opportunity to support such a great cause" said head women's soccer coach Ashley Bingaman. "Our women really enjoyed playing for a cause that is so close to so many of their hearts.  We will be looking to continue and grow this event in the years to come."
