Bombers Earn Seventh Straight Win With 1-0 Shutout Over Houghton

Beth Coppolecchia (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) made four saves in the win, earning her fifth solo shutout of the season.
Both teams came out firing in the opening frame, with Ithaca holding a slight 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Houghton secured the first scoring opportunity of the game, sneaking a shot through Coppolecchia that was kicked away by the Bomber defense in the third minute of play.
After a scoreless first stanza, the Bombers finally broke the scoring drought in the 63rd minute. Senior
Alex Liese (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) started the play, firing a long shot on the Highlander goal with a group of players in front. Grant-Keane pounced on the rebound, firing a shot back at the Houghton goalkeeper. Grant-Keane collected her own rebound and finally snuck it through for her second goal of the season.
Shortly following Ithaca's goal, Houghton responded with two quick shots that struck post. Despite the close call, both failed to beat Coppolecchia, preserving the 1-0 lead for the Bombers. Houghton rarely challenged for the remainder of the contest, giving Ithaca the shutout victory.
