Washington & Jefferson 2, Juniata 1

Junior Catherine Beaudoin scored both goals eight minutes apart in the second half to help Washington & Jefferson field hockey end a two-match losing streak following a 2-1 victory at Juniata Tuesday afternoon.

The Presidents (9-5) defeated the Eagles (7-8) for just the second time in 13 all-time meetings.  Juniata leads the Landmark Conference standings at 3-0 so far this fall.

The first half finished scoreless, but Juniata had nearly every scoring chance with a 5-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Eagles finally broke through 12 minutes after the start of the second half when Mikaela Stone scored from seven yards out.

Beaudoin tied the game with just over 15 minutes remaining after re-directing junior midfielder Gina Taglieri's (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) smash inside the circle.

The same combination was responsible for the second goal on a penalty corner with 7:53 remaining as Taglieri slipped a pass to Beaudoin for the eventual game winner.

Juniata limited the Presidents to only four shots, while attempting 13; however, sophomore goalie Kyra Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) produced nine saves to earn the win.  Juniata also led in overall penalty corners by a 16-5 margin.

Beaudoin now has a team-high eight goals, while Taglieri is tied for the team lead with four assists.

St. John Fisher 4, Nazareth 1
The St. John Fisher College field hockey team scored early and often, as the Cardinals picked up a key conference win, defeating Nazareth College 4-1 Tuesday night at Growney Stadium.

With the win, Fisher moves to 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in the conference standings, while Nazareth drops to 4-8 and 2-3 in Empire 8 play.

The Cardinals opened the game on a torrid pace, blasting five shots in the game's opening minutes.  Fisher scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute when Bailee Barrett and Stacie Skidmore were able to sneak behind Nazareth's defenders for a two-on-one opportunity.  Barrett corralled the pass from Skidmore and snuck the ball by the Nazareth goaltender to put the Cardinals in front, 1-0.

The Cardinals were at it again in the 18th minute.  Alexandrea Malley rocketed a shot that ricocheted right to Marissa Vedella who slapped home the goal, extending Fisher's lead to 2-0.

Fisher controlled the tempo for much of the first half, outshooting the Golden Flyers 17-4.

The Cardinals wasted no time adding to their lead as the second half got underway.  Elizabeth Cusack beat her defender and fired a shot to the left side of the cage that just snuck past the outstretched arm of Nazareth's goalie to give Fisher a 3-0 lead.

Nazareth had a strong chance to get on the board, as the Golden Flyers took a penalty stroke, but Danielle Famolaro stood tall in goal, turning the shot away to keep the momentum in Fisher's favor for the time being.

The visitors would eventually get on the board midway through the second frame when Sibongile Chisi found the loose ball in a scramble in front of Fisher's net before burying Nazareth's first goal.

Moments later, Skidmore would score her fourth goal of the year to put the Cardinals back up by three, beating her defender and slapping the ball past Mary Greco to give Fisher the 4-1 advantage.

Famolaro earned the win after making three saves in net for Fisher.

Neumann 4, Elmira 1

Neumann got on the board first after Jess Harrell slipped the ball past Thomas 11 minutes into the game. The Soaring Eagles responded with a goal of their own just two minutes later when McKenna Light passed the ball across the circle to Gilbert who put the ball in the back of the cage to tie the game at one apiece. Three minutes later the Knights put up another goal after Alexa McIntyre '16 found the ball off a rebound and placed it past Thomas to put the Knights into the lead. The Purple and Gold trailed by just one goal going into halftime. In the second half Neumann scored two more times to increase the lead to 4-1.

William Smith 4, Ithaca 1
The Ithaca College field hockey team (8-5, 2-2 E8) lost to No. 6 William Smith Tuesday night, falling to the Herons by a score of 4-1 at Higgins Stadium. Freshman Colleen Keegan-Twombly scored the lone bomber goal, while freshman goalkeeper Katie Lass made 12 saves on 16 Heron shots. The Bombers also recorded two defensive saves in the contest.

The Herons opened the final frame with two-straight goals, scoring in the 53rd and 55th minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Ithaca finally got on the board just 11 seconds after the final William Smith tally. Keegan-Twombly took control of the ball along the goal line on the far side, eventually moving towards the front of the Heron net. After a scrum in front, Keegan-Twombly jammed a shot past the William Smith goalkeeper, marking her second tally of the season.

The Bombers were unable to challenge offensively for the remainder of the half, securing the 4-1 victory for the nationally-ranked Herons.

Geneseo 4, Houghton 1
The Houghton Field Hockey team played SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday. The outcome of the game was not in Houghton's favor, losing 4-1.

With only one goal produced from one shot-on-goal opportunity, Colleen Sullivan scored her second goal of the season in today's game. Sullivan's lone Houghton goal was not enough to withstand the Knights of SUNY Geneseo.

The Knights produced an overbearing 17 shots-on-goal. While Emily Thompson and Carly Congilosi had a combined 11 saves, they allowed 4 goals into the net.

Oneonta 4, Hartwick 0
Hartwick field hockey trailed Oneonta 1-0 at halftime but the host Red Dragons scored three times in the second period to come out with a 4-0 win on Tuesday evening. The loss drops the Hawks to 4-10 overall while Oneonta State improves to 10-4.

Sara Rattigan scored twice to lead O-State. Kelcy Forbragd had one goal and two helpers. Andrea Day had a goal and an assist.

Hartwick controlled possession in the opening moments of the contest. Following her own penalty corner, Holley Reynolds nearly scored to give the Hawks the early lead but her shot went off of the post.

Oneonta had chances to score but stellar play from 'Wick goalie Shannon Carter kept the Red Dragons off of the scoreboard. O-State finally broke through in the 28th minute when Forbragd passed to Rattigan in front of the goal for a tip-in to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead going into the half.

In the second period, O-State quickly increased its lead to 2-0 just over three minutes into the frame on a goal by Day. Goals by Forbragd in the 53rd minute and Rattigan in the 60th minute completed the scored in the game.

Carter stopped eight shots in the Hartwick cage. Jilian Sabatino came in to relieve her late in the second half and did not record a save. Tess Tracy did not face a shot for Oneonta State.

The Red Dragons had a wide lead in shots, 18-3. O-State had a slim advantage in penalty corners, 5-4.
