SCHENECTADY, NY-
Nicolette Wilson's (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) first career goal gave the Hartwick women the lead early in the second half but host Union scored three straight times to come away with a 3-1 victory in non-conference action on Wednesday night at College Park Field. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-5-3 while the Dutchwomen improve to 8-4.
The contest was scoreless in the first half. Union led in shots 10-4 but the Hartwick defense held its ground with goalie
Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) stopping six shots in goal. The Dutchwomen nearly scored in the 22nd minute but Whitney Bickford's shot hit the post and back onto the field.
The Hawks controlled possession early in the second half. Hartwick was granted a corner kick in the 49
th minute.
Allyson Daniels' (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) attempt found Wilson who was there to head the ball into the net to give 'Wick a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Union's Kelsey Fish sent a long pass down to Molly Gilchrist who settled the ball and hit a low shot past Brown to tie the game at 1-1. The Dutchwomen would go ahead for good in the 68th minute on an Emily Hamilton goal from 15 yards out. Melissa Scinto scored from 30 yards on a direct kick in the 79th minute to end the scoring on the night.
Brown finished the game with a season-high 10 saves. Union's Allison Brustiwicz had two saves in goal.
Union ended up with an 18-10 advantage in shots. The Dutchwomen also led in corner kicks, 5-3.
The Hawks stay on the road as they will next face Houghton on Saturday afternoon. Game time will be at 1:30 p.m.
