Houghton Women’s Tennis Fought Hard, But Fell Short To The Wildcats

AMHERST, N.Y.—The Highlanders suffered a tough loss 4-5, Friday afternoon on the road at Daemen College. 

Playing at number five singles, Hannah Hale (Skowhegan, ME, Skowhegan Area) defeated her opponent in a superset 6-2, 0-6, 10-7.  The only other singles victory for the day was Ava Bergen (Greenville, IL, Bond County Community), number six singles player, defeating her opponent 8-1. 

In doubles play there were two total wins for Houghton.  Hale and Jennifer Iacucci (Chili, NY, Churchville-Chili) lead the way with a score of 8-6 while Lisa Jones (Attica, NY, Homeschooled) and Jennifer Mechler (Webster, NY, Webster-Schroeder) defeated their opponents 8-2.

"The culmination of the whole year was great in today's competition.  Everyone has improved each match throughout the season and that was evident today as we were very competitive.  The women feel great about themselves and where they are at as a program.  We have officially put ourselves on the map for women's tennis at Houghton College," said Head Coach Charlie Ellis.

This brings the first year program to an overall record of 2-12. Today ends the fall portion of their season for the women's tennis team.
