HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Stephany Ellison (Whitesville, NY, Whitesville HS) scored two second-half goals to lead the Highlander women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Penn State-Behrend on Thursday.

As was the case in the men's game between these two schools last night, the rains fell throughout the contest, making for slick field conditions.

It didn't take long for the Highlanders to take control, as Erin Miller (Mt. Vernon, OH, Mount Vernon) put the hosts ahead 1-0 with just over one minute gone. Atalie Fite (Cincinnati, OH, Home School) picked up the assist on the play. The score would remain 1-0 through the next 49 minutes until Fite put in her seventh of the year corraling a Melissa Lincoln (Naples, NY, Naples) shot that caromed off the crossbar and putting it past the Lions keeper.

Ellison then scored back-to-back goals in the 58th and 61st minute to end the scoring. Lincoln and Jenny Zacchigna (East Aurora, NY, East Aurora) picked up assists on the goals.

The Highlanders outshot the Lions 23-8 on the night, including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal. Shawna Sprout stopped one shot to pick up the shutout.

Houghton improved to 10-3 on the season while the Lions fells to 9-5-1.

Houghton is back in action on Saturday, October 19 when they host Hartwick College at 1:30 p.m.
