HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 17, 2013) – The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League released a list of its top 30 pitchers from this past summer and Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore Jayson Yano (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) was chosen 13th among hurlers in the league throughout all three NCAA Divisions and junior college players.

Yano went 1-1 and had a perfect 0.00 earned-run-average in 16.2 innings of work for the DC Grays. He allowed just nine hits and fanned 10 batters with three saves for the 23-21 Grays in 10 appearances.

On the top 30 list, Yano was ranked ahead of eight Division I student-athletes, two of which play within arguably the best conference in the nation, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Yano, who was also named Empire 8 Co-Rookie of the Year in 2013, will be playing for the Newark Pilots (New York) of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) next summer along with sophomore Robert Robbins (Tallahassee, Fla.). Robbins played his summer ball in summer 2013 for the Pompano Beach Clippers of the South Florida Collegiate League along with fellow sophomore Jonathan Toro (Sanford, Fla.). The Clippers won the league championship after posting a 24-6 overall regular season record. Robbins went 4-0 with a 2.83 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. In total Stevens had seven of its student-athletes compete in prestigous summer leagues around the country including Coastal Plain, New York Collegiate Baseball League, Beach League, Texas Collegiate League, Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, and the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League.

"Playing competitive summer collegiate baseball is a cornerstone of the Stevens Baseball experience," stated Head Coach Kristaps Aldins." We are excited about this honor for Jayson and are grateful for the positive recognition it brings to our program."

Stevens opens up the 2014 season on February 23 at home against Yeshiva University for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. The team's complete schedule will be available in the upcoming week.
