GENEVA, NY – The Hartwick women's cross country team finished first out of 13 teams on Saturday to claim their first Cross Country Only Conference Championship on Saturday at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva.

The win marks the first and highest finish for the Hawks since first competing at the event in 2010. The CCOC was created by long time William Smith coach Jack Warner as a championship race for competitive cross country teams that do not fully support track and field.

Hartwick freshman Victoria Hathaway (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater Central) claimed top individual honors as she beat out all 136 competitors. She ran the 5K in 19:34.9 with a 6:19 mile pace. Her time was over ten seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Clarkson.

Junior Monica Prager (Salisbury Mills, NY/Washingtonville) earned third place for the Hawks. Prager was just under 17 ticks behind Hathaway in 19:51.7.

Freshman Justine Kozubal (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) just missed a top-10 finish in 11th with a time of 20:43.0. Krista Poore (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Becky Talbot (Sherrill, NY/VVS), and Tricia Phillips (Williamson, NY/Williamson) were 28th, 35th, and 36th respectively. Poore covered the course in 21:36.8. Talbot came in at 21:42.7 and Phillips was just behind in 21:44.3.

Hartwick's will be home for the only time this season in their next meet. The Hawks host the Hartwick Twilight 5K under the lights of the Elmore Field Track on Friday, October 25.
