Elmira Shatters College Scoring Record in 14-2 Win over Cedar Crest
Pine Valley, NY -- After 70 minutes of play, 14 goals, and 37 points, the Elmira College field hockey team (4-9, 1-5 E8) marched away with their fourth win of the season as they thumped Cedar Crest College (0-15, 0-4 CSAC), 14-2. McKenna Light '14 tied the college record for single-game points with eight, and along with teammate
Kourtny Schwerdtman '15, tied the single-game assists mark with two apiece.
The Elmira women put up a college record 14 goals on the scoreboard, shattering the 2003 record of nine. EC's nine assists turned out to be three more than the previous record which was set in 2002 while their 37 points eclipsed the 2003 mark of 24. The Purple and Gold also launched 65 shots in today's game, setting a new college record as well.
It only took EC 1:22 to score their first goal of the game as
Ashley Palmer '16 tipped a pass from
Alli Gilbert '16 into the back of the cage to take a 1-0 lead. From there, Elmira would score three more goals in less than three minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead with over 30 minutes to play in the half.
Eventually, Elmira would end up scoring 10 unanswered goals before Cedar Crest found the back of the cage. With a 10-1 edge, EC cushioned their lead even more with a pair of goals by Light as she successfully registered her first career hat-trick. The two late goals would give the Purple and Gold a 12-1 lead entering halftime.
The second half would prove to be much of the same for the Soaring Eagles as they put up another two goals while allowing just one to clinch their fourth win of the year, 14-2.

Caitlin Sickau '16. Goals scored by Kraynak, Sickau, Schwerdtman, and Kirkland all mark their first goals of the 2013 season.
Elmira used four different goalies between the pipes to seal today's 14-2 win. The reigning ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Lauren Thomas '14 got the start today, playing nearly 27 minutes en route to the win.
Mikayla Rebusmen '17,
Reanna Zappavigna '17, and
Renata Lizak '17 all saw time between the posts today as well, registering one save apiece.
EC Field Hockey will look to build on today's historic win as they travel to Hoboken, NJ to take on Stevens Institute of Technology in an Empire 8 matchup. Game-time is scheduled for noon.
