AU men’s swimming and diving team opens season with win at Nazareth
PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 season with a 131-99 victory over host Nazareth Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons got two individual event wins from juniors
David Coombes (Dansville, NY/Dansville) and
Zac Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint). Coombes took the 100-meter freestyle (54.28) and 200-meter freestyle (2:03.33) and Toth won the 100-meter butterfly (1:01.08) and 200-meter individual medley (2:15.49).
Other event winners for the Saxons were: junior
Joe Rogers (Dublin, NH) in the 800-meter freestyle (9:22.75) and senior
Pete Sowinski (Akron, NY/Akron) in the 50-meter freestyle (24.27).
The Saxons won both relays. Coombes, junior
Jeff Rowland (Rochester, NY/Hilton), Toth and junior
David Luke (Ocala, FL/West Port) took the 20-meter medley relay (1:52.76) and Luke, sophomore
Sheldon Vosburgh (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie), Rogers and Sowinski won the 40-meter free relay (3:48.07).
Alfred is in action next on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at RIT.
