Nazareth 3, St. John Fisher 0
Nazareth scored three goals in the second half to defeat visiting St. John Fisher in a women's Empire 8 Conference soccer game on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Olivia Derleth and juniors Ashtin Argentieri and Elizabeth Howell scored for the Golden Flyers.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Flyers converted a corner kick opportunity into a goal to break the tie. At the 52:56 mark of regulation, senior Julia Teran Pulford placed her corner kick at the far post for Derleth. Derleth popped her header over the Cardinals' goalie, Brooke Seavitt. Derleth now has seven goals to lead the team.

About 20 minutes later, Nazareth added an insurance goal following crisp passing in Fisher's 18-yard box. Howell and sophomore Briana Vibbard beat the Cardinals' defenders, and after passing to each other, found Argentieri who made a run into the box. Argentieri converted the scoring opportunity with a shot to the left of Seavitt.

The Golden Flyers struck less than four minutes later to add a third goal. With 13 minutes to play in regulation, Howell collected the loose ball and dribbled into the Fisher defensive zone unmarked. Howell scored on her long shot attempt as Seavitt left the net to challenge her. With her goal and assist, Howell moves into second on the team in scoring with eight total points on three goals and two assists.

After allowing Fisher to control the action through much of the first half, Nazareth's defense tightened in the second 45 minutes. The Golden Flyers allowed the Cardinals a shot in the first 75 seconds of the second half, then held Fisher to only one shot until there was less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Nazareth also held Fisher without a shot for the final 7:21 to ensure the victory.

The Golden Flyers had two scoring opportunities in the first half. The first was in the opening minutes when a corner kick by Teran Pulford curved toward the Cardinals' goal. The second followed a determined effort by Howell roughly 11 minutes into the contest. Howell stole the ball from a Fisher defender deep inside the Cardinals' box then put a shot on goal, but it was defelcted over the crossbar.

Fisher's best chances in the opening stanza were thwarted by Nazareth defenders and saves by senior Bethany Novak. Sixteen minutes into regulation senior Sarah Cipperly blocked a shot by Fisher's leading scorer Alex Rohloff. Rohloff entered the game with nine goals and was held to only one shot on goal. The second scoring chance was about two minutes later when freshman Jessica Barden knocked the ball away from the Cardinals' second leading scorer, Chelsea Oberkrieser. Inside Nazareth's box, Barden came from behind to knock the ball away before Oberkrieser released a shot.

The Golden Flyers finished with a 14-12 advantage in total shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Nazareth also had a 4-3 edge in corner kick opportunities. Novak finished with five saves to record the shutout. Seavitt was also credited with five saves.


Houghton 4, Alfred State 0
Houghton women's soccer scored four second half goals to earn a 4-0 win over Alfred State College on Wednesday.

After a scoreless first half, Atalie Fite got the Highlanders on the board with an unassisted goal in the 56th minute. Just six minutes later Stephany Ellison took a long pass from Erin Miller and beat the keeper one-on-one for her team-leading 15th goal of the season. Darlene Eckhardt made it 3-0 in the 74th minute off an assist from Sarah Gabriele, before Gabriele closed the scoring with a direct kick to the corner of the net in the 77th minute.

Houghton outshot the Pioneers, 22-4, on the night and had a 3-0 edge in corners.

Shawna Sprout  got the win in net while making three saves.


The College of New Jersey 3, Stevens 0
The Stevens Institute of Technology was shutout at home by nationally ranked No. 11 The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, 3-0, on a cloud and blustery evening in Hoboken. With the loss, Stevens is now 8-7 overall, while TCNJ improves 13-1-1 on the season.

The Lions posted their game-winning goal just 2:37 in the match on the sixth goal of the season by Leigh Applestein off a pass from Sarah Marion. Marion sent a cross from the right side of the field through the 18-yard box to Applestein who beat Stevens sophomore goalkeeper Evelyn Ting.

Despite allowing three goals on the evening, Ting made 13 saves on the evening which included numerous diving saves that a few more opportunities for TCNJ to score.

TCNJ's second goal came in the 17th minute after Katie Lindacher raced past the Ducks' defense to set up a one-on-one chance against Ting. Lindacher's low strike beat a sprawling Ting for her sixth marker on the year.

After halftime, the Lions put their third goal on the board 7:49 into the second half to round out the offense in the contest. Taylor Lusardi sent a long shot from 25 yards out over the outstretched arms of Ting after the Ducks failed to clear the ball out of the defensive zone.

Stevens' best chance to score came with just over nine minutes left in regulation on a blast from freshman Raba Nassif. Nassif sent a shot towards the top left corner of the frame but TCNJ goalkeeper Kendra Griffith made a leaping stop to preserve the shutout.

The Ducks were outshot in the match, 27-11, and allowed eight Lions' corners to just one for Stevens.


Daemen 2, Alfred 0
The Alfred University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Daemen College, Wednesday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

Daemen netted a goal in the first half, two goals in the second half, and held a 20-5 shot advantage over AU.

Senior goalie Samijo Scheer played the full 90 minutes in net, making eight saves for the Lady Saxons
