Stevens v Saint Peter's College Results
The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team opened its 2013-14 season with a convincing 136-69 win over NCAA Division I foe Saint Peter's College Saturday afternoon.
Stevens opened the meet by sweeping the top-three spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore
Ravi Sun, sophomore
Joshua Lefeber, freshman
Austen Young and senior
Tyler Hessler teamed for the first-place finish with a time of 1:36.79.
Freshmen
Mark Lippert and
William Arnott were second and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking times of 10:01.78 and 10:02.95 in their first collegiate swims, with sophomore
Tomasz Wolinski and senior
Nick Noga going one-two in the 200-free (1:45.74, 1:46.09). Hessler and senior
Shawn Hanak kept it going for the Ducks with the same placements in the 50-yard freestyle, touching two hundredths of a seconds apart at 21.71 and 21.73.
Sun had an excellent performance in the 200-yard individual and placed second with a time of 1:56.71. He was followed in third by Lefeber who notched a 1:59.32. Young's first collegiate win came in a great swim in the 100-yard butterfly and recording a 52.32. He was followed by
John Rees in second place with a 53.45.
Hanak's impressive 47.87 was good for the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle, and the veteran was followed by Wolinski in second place (48.73) and Noga in third (49.02). Sun carded another second place in the 100-yard backstroke (52.84), while Lippert and Arnott went two-three in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.03, 4:57.52).
Sophomore
Dane Pilcher earned a victory for Stevens in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.75, and he was followed by freshman
Alex Xu in second with a 1:02.78.
In the final event of the afternoon – the 400-yard freestyle relay – the Ducks took first and second, with Noga, Wolinski, Hessler and Hanak grouping for a 3:12.96 and first place.
Nazareth v St. Lawrence Results
Host Nazareth won 14 of 16 events Saturday against St. Lawrence in men's swimming and diving and the Golden Flyers went on to take a 174-105 victory over the Saints in a dual meet.
The victory evened Nazareth's overall record at 1-1 as sophomore
Dan Burke and freshman
Matt Leverich each participated in four winning events. The meet was the first of the season for the Saints.
Burke won the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes with times of 1:01.12 and 2:14.35 respectively. He also won the 200-meter IM (2:21.39) and was part of the winning 200-meter medley relay (1:54.32). Leverich also swam on the winning relay along with seniors
Tim Rappold and
Bryan Geary.
Leverich won three freestyle races. He posted a time of 2:03.32 in the 200 free, :25.96 in the 50 free and 4:23.36 in the 400 free. Other winners for Nazareth were senior
Justin Sawran in the 800-meter freestyle (9:33.71), sophomore
Sean Doyle in the 100-meter butterfly (1:07.64), sophomore
Jeff Green in 1-meter diving (266.35) and Geary in the 200-meter butterfly (2:33.67). In addition, Geary, Sawran, Doyle and sophomore
Robert Ramos swam on Nazareth's winning 200-meter free relay (1:46.47).
Hartwick Quad Meet Results
Hartwick hosted Cazenovia, Utica, and the College of St. Rose on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool and came away with three victories to sweep the meet.
The Hartwick men defeated Cazenovia 152-15, the College of St. Rose, 130-88, and Utica 150-50.
Luke Grunewald(New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) both had a pair of victories to lead the Hawks. Grunewald had wins in the 1000 (10:10.20) and the 500 free (4:56.44) while Ranson won the 200 (1:47.75) and the 100 free (48.69).
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan) placed first in the 100 fly (54.22) while
Jeremy Torres (Poulsbo, WA/Central Kitsap) touched the wall first in the 100 breast (1:02.54). A trio of freshman all won their first collegiate events.
Joey Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (50 free-22.45),
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL) (200 IM-2:00.99), and
Alexander Gibson (San Leandro, CA/Castro Valley High) (100 back- 56.79) all enjoyed victories.
The 200 medley relay team of Danny MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie), Torres, Detar, and
Matt Behn(Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) won with a time of 1:41.27. The 200 free relay squad of Ranson, Mulvehill, Behn, and Santiesteban were victorious in a time of 1:28.42.
Diver
Aaron Soden (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) was unopposed in both the one and three meter diving events. Soden posted scores of 170.45 in the one meter and 142.65 in the three meter.
Utica at Hartwick Quad Meet
The Utica College men's swim and dive teams opened up its 2013-2014 campaign Saturday in a quad meet hosted by Hartwick College at the Moyer Pool. Sophomore
Raphael Warnon (Rock Tavern, NY/Washingtonville ) led UC with two victories and three second place finishes on the day.
The Pioneers went 1-2 on the afternoon beating Cazenovia College, 127-31, in convincing fashion but lost to the College of Saint Rose (176-41) and Empire 8 power and host Hartwick (150-50).
Warnon recorded two wins against Caz in the 200-yard medley and 100-yard backstroke. He also tallied second place in both events against St. Rose as well as second in the 100-yard backstroke against "Wick", falling short of the win by under one tick.
Freshman new addition
Tyler Good (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) opened up his Pioneer career with two early season victories in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles with times of 1:55.79 and 5:25.79 against the Wildcats of Cazenovia. Good treaded to third place in both events against St. Rose while fourth (200yd) and fifth (500yd) versus the host Hartwick.
Utica, who registered the most wins in over five years last season, extended its win streak over Cazenovia to five straight and will have a chance to continue that stretch next week at home.
Ithaca at Rensselaer Results
The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team opened its 2013-14 season on Saturday, falling to Rensselaer by a score of 140-160 at the RPI Alumni Sports and Recreation Center. The Bombers placed first in 9-of-16 events.
Clement Towner (Lansing/Lansing) secured the first victory of the day for the men. He earned the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 10:19.87. Towner also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle, completing the race in a time of 4:59.82.
Other first-place finishes included
Addison Hebert (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton), who earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.24. Newcomer
Lucas Zelehowsky (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) swept the men's butterfly events. He took first with a time of 53.07 in the 100-yard and first in the 200-yard with a time of 1:58.43.
Matt Morrison (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) finished with a total of 281.60 in the 3-meter dive to earn the top spot.
The Bombers capped the meet with the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of

Lucas Zelehowsky (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn),
Connor Schroyer (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and
Peter Knight (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt) finished first with a time of 1:28.54.
