Josh Oliver Earns ECAC Special Teams Recognition
ITHACA, N.Y. --
Josh Oliver (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie) of the Ithaca College football team was named Corvias ECAC Division III Northeast Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 28 following an exceptional day on kick returns in Ithaca's 24-20 win at Buffalo State.
Oliver had one of the game's biggest plays when he returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to give Ithaca a 17-7 lead. It was the first punt-return TD of Oliver's career and Ithaca's first since Dan Ruffrage ran one back in 2011. It was also the first punt-return touchdown allowed by Buffalo State since 2004. Oliver added another 33-yard punt earlier in the second half. Oliver had three kickoff returns for a total of 46 yards including a 23-yard return.
The Bombers moved to 1-0 in the Empire 8 with that victory and are 3-0 overall. Ithaca continues conference play this Saturday at Hartwick.
