Bombers, Cardinals, Ducks and Hawks Claim Victory
Ithaca 2, Nazareth 1
The Ithaca College field hockey team (7-3, 2-2 E8) defeated Nazareth (3-6, 2-2 E8) Saturday afternoon, dropping the Golden Flyers by a score of 2-1. Junior
Danielle Coiro and senior
Katie Kennedy scored for the Bombers, while freshman goalkeeper
Katie Lass stopped seven shots in the victory.
Coiro netted the first goal of the contest in the 21st minute, scoring on a feed from freshman
Colleen Keegan-Twombly. Coiro's goal marked her sixth of the season, and gave the Bombers the 1-0 lead.
Ithaca added to the lead in the closing minute of the first frame, as Kennedy scored her sixth tally of the season on a feed from fellow senior
Andrea Pace. Kennedy's goal capped the scoring in the opening frame, giving Ithaca a 2-0 lead at the half.
Nazareth battled back and cut the lead in half with less than seven minutes to play as senior
Jordan Ritchie scored unassisted for her fourth goal of the season. The Golden Flyers managed one shot in the closing minutes, but that bid by sophomore
Maggie Muzio went wide of the goal.

Mary Greco played all 70 minutes in goal for Nazareth and had six saves.
Stevens 4, Utica 3 (OT)
Senior forward
Marguerite Chavez tapped in a rebound 7:36 into overtime to lift the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team to a thrilling 4-3 win over defending Empire 8 Champion Utica College Saturday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
With the win, Stevens now controls its own destiny and ability to host the 2013 Empire 8 Tournament. The Ducks are now 4-0 in the conference (7-3 overall), while Utica falls to 3-1 in the Empire 8 and 8-3 overall. Stevens has a one-game lead on Utica and St. John Fisher who are in second and third place, respectively in the conference standings.
Utica scored 3:02 into the game after a broken penalty corner. Junior back
Amanda Charles inserted and eventually received the ball in front. Her first shot was denied by senior back
Katie Achilles but she stuck with the play and eventually snuck a shot inside the left post.
The Pioneers looked poised to go up 2-0 with a penalty stroke but the bid banged off the left post and Stevens took advantage, tying the game at one on a penalty corner at the 10:52 mark. On the play, senior forward
Marguerite Chavez inserted to classmate and fellow captain
Megan Traub who ripped a big shot on goal that deflected up and in off a Utica defender. It was the seventh goal of the season for Traub and eighth helper for Chavez.
In the middle portions of the first half, the Ducks controlled field position and possession, generating a plethora of chances that Utica goalie Kells Casey turned away or shots taken just missed. The Ducks would eventually take the lead with a Chavez attempt getting denied but finding the stick of sophomore
Dailyn Brook on the left post for a score and a 2-1 Stevens lead.
The Pioneers turned up the pressure immediately following the Stevens goal with freshman goalie
Emily Stukenborg making one stop, and senior back
Katie Achilles stuffing another Utica attack.
Stevens took a 2-1 lead into the intermission, holding a 16-7 margin in shots and 10-3 edge in penalty corners.
In the opening moments of the second half, Utica was able to generate four penalty corners, with the fourth resulting in the second goal of the game for Charles and a 2-2 score.
Chavez answered for the Ducks, creating on a breakaway in front that resulted in a stroke she converted for a 3-2 lead with 25:14 remaining.
Utica threatened to tie with 16 minutes left with a 2-on-none break, but Stukenborg disrupted the play and by the time a Pioneer shot was taken, Stevens had recovered and the attempt sailed wide of the cage.
The Pioneers eventually tied the game with less than seven minutes left as junior Hannah Mackey put home a pass from junior Chasity Eckert to essentially send the game into extra time.
Each team had a couple solid chances early in the overtime as Utica was in control over the first couple minutes, and the Ducks took charge over the next few.
The game-winner came after a broken penalty corner in which freshman
Nolie Prouty fought her way into the circle with some nice moves and took a shot that Casey was able to get her left pad on. The ball slid under the pad to the goalie's right where Chavez was located and the senior lunged to her right and tapped in the game-winner that capped an amazingly well played game for both sides.
Chavez finished with two goals and two assists for a total of six points. The Ducks ended with a 20-8 edge in corners and a 31-14 margin in shots.
Stukenborg made three saves for Stevens. Casey denied 12 Stevens shots in the loss.
St. John Fisher 3, Washington & Jefferson 0
The St. John Fisher College field hockey team scored two goals in a 13-second span to help lift the Cardinals to a 3-0 win over visiting Washington & Jefferson College in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference matchup.
With the win, Fisher, competing in just its third season as an NCAA Division III program has tied the College-record for wins in a season with six and still has at least seven games left to play.
Fisher took the lead for good on a goal from
Marissa Vedella in the 25th minute.
Elizabeth Cusack followed that up with a score of her own off a pass from
Stacie Skidmore with 6:03 left in the half. Just 13 seconds later, Skidmore scored to give the Cardinals a 3-0 halftime lead.

Danielle Famolaro finished the game with 5 saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season.
Hartwick 2, Elmira 1
Amanda Coppolo and
Kelly Kramer both tallied goals for the Hartwick field hockey team as the Hawks ended their six-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over visiting Elmira on Saturday afternoon at Wright Stadium.
Elmira took an early lead in today's game as Light registered her third goal of the year at the 19:15 mark of the first half. Light's goal came on a long shot from the left side of the field which would beat Hartwick goalie Shannon Carter for the score.
With less than five minutes to go in the first half, Hartwick would tie things up on a goal from Coppolo. The Hawks would then go on to score at the 52:09 mark in the second half which would eventually hold up as the game winner.
Hartwick led in total shots, 9-6, and in penalty corners, 9-7.

Lauren Thomas made five saves in today's game.
Oneonta 4, Houghton 0
The Houghton Field Hockey team lost 4-0 in this afternoon's match against SUNY Oneonta.
The Highlanders created a limited number of shot opportunities, with only two of them being shot on goals. The Dragons of SUNY Oneonta on the other hand were able to capitalize four times, giving Houghton the loss.
