Cardinals, Ducks and Highlanders Triumph
Stevens 4, Nazareth 0
The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex to open Homecoming Saturday.
With the win, Stevens moves to 8-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8. Naz drops to 4-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.
The Ducks received a pair of goals from sophomore
Carson Pryor early in the second half to put the game away and saw goalkeepers
Paul Killian and
Brian Schaake combine for the team's sixth shutout of the season, accumulating eight saves.
Nazareth had the game's first strong scoring chance, with a one-on-one developing between Golden Flyer forward Luke Elston and Killian. On the play, Killian charged out, slid, and was able to make the save to keep the game scoreless.
From that point on, save for a corner and crossing chance for the guests, Stevens completed dominated the first-half action, pouring in two goals and hammering three posts before it was all said and done.
In the 27th minute, sophomore forward
Joe Cellitti rang the bell with a perfect shot from the middle of the Nazareth zone 30-yards out. On the play, Cellitti received a pass, turned and made a couple touches before realizing he was open. He lofted his shot, catching the Nazareth keeper off his line, and stuck it in the upper left corner for the score.
Moments later, sophomore midfielder
Colin Phillips banged a crossbar and post before finding the net with a gorgeous free kick from 19-yards out just off the upper-left-corner of the penalty box.
Stevens came out in the second half as if the game was all even, putting in two goals less than 3:30 in. Pryor netted both with the first coming on the back of a Cellitti through-ball into the left side of the box and the second coming via a header after a corner.
Despite the two or three quality chances for Nazareth, Stevens completely dominated the match, holding possession and forcing the action throughout. The Ducks ended with a 24-11 margin in shots and a 12-2 advantage in corners. Each side was credited with eight saves.
St. John Fisher 1, Elmira 0
The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team ended its three-game losing streak with a 1-0 shutout win at Elmira College, Saturday afternoon at Campus Field in Elmira, N.Y.
Chris Ferrara scored the game's only goal in the 69
th minute of action when
Joel Castellini kicked a ball that crossed in front of the Elmira net as Ferrara used his head to redirect the ball into the top left corner of the net to halt Fisher's four-game scoreless drought.
Both teams fired 12 shots in the game, however, Fisher's defense only allowed one shot on goal in the contest.

Danny Yancone,
Jake Quattrini and Ferrara each had two shots, while six other players were able to put a ball on net.
Houghton 1, Utica 0
Houghton got on the board in the 24th minute as junior Cory Brautigam netted his first tally of the year, off an assist from freshman Landon Sheaffer, who tallied his team-best 13th point.
Despite outshooting the Highlanders 5-4 in the second half, Utica was not able to net the equalizer. Jacob Dunnett made two saves in the win to help Houghton improve to 8-1-1.
Alfred v Ithaca
The Alfred University men's soccer team match versus Ithaca College will be postponed and rescheduled to a later date. The game was cancelled due to inclement weather.
