Empire 8 men's cross country teams traveled to Letchworth Park on Saturday to compete at the Pre-Regional meet. 

Ithaca placed ninth out of 20 teams followed by Utica (11), Nazareth (16) and St. John Fisher (17). Geneseo took first with a total team score of 34 points. The Knights finished with four runners in the top six places to win the meet. Rochester finished second with 112 points as they edged Vassar, who tallied 117 points.

Freshman Sean Phillips paced the Bombers with a personal-best eight-kilometer time of 26:12.40 to place 22nd out of 255 runners. He bettered his pervious best 8K by 20 seconds.

Running second and third for the Bombers were junior Dennis Ryan and sophomore Stephen Gomez . Ryan finished 39th in 26:34.00 and Gomez 43rd in 26:36.80. Senior Samuel Horwath crossed the finish line 93rd in 27:27.90 and rookie Jesse Capellaro ran 107th with a 27:36.30 finish.

UC was led by freshman Sam Anderson who placed 44th overall with a time of 26.58.

Senior Morgan Payne came in second for Utica and 49th overall clocking a final time of 27:06.  Freshman Erik Winberg, senior Eric Stevens and freshman Jason Ortiz finished less than .04 apart.  Winberg came in 62 with a time of 27:21 ahead of Stevens who placed 62nd with a time of 27:24.  Ortiz clocked a time of 27:25 as he finished 64th overall out of the 255 man field.

Senior Matt Fedrizzi was first to finish for Nazareth as he placed 65th with a time of 27:03 in the 8-kilometer race.

Freshman Jacob Murray was the second Nazareth runner to cross the finish line as he took 160th with a time of 28:46. Classmate Ethan Osborne finished nine places later with a time of 28:56. Sophomore Patrick Neureuter finished 196th (29:40), just three places ahead of senior Jake Lafaver (29:48).

Evan Magnussen was the top finisher for the Cardinals in the 8k, placing 58th out of 255 competitors with a time of 27:19.6  Jose Ramos wasn't far behind, placing 105 with a time of 28:57.3.  Sam Harbol was right behind him, finishing 106 with a pace of 28:59.7.
