Football Offensive Player – Hartwick
Frankie Molina, Senior, WR – Middletown, NY/Middletown
Frankie Molina caught six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown in Hartwick's 21-9 win over Ithaca on Saturday. Three of those catches came on third down and were converted to either first downs or a touchdown. The win marked the first over IC since 2007 and is Hartwick's first Empire 8 victory since 2010. 'Wick is also 4-0 for the first time since 2009.
Football Defensive Player – Alfred
Seiji Hinton, Senior, DB – Freeport, NY/Freeport
Seiji Hinton had 10 tackles (three for loss, 17 yards; one sack, 11 yards), a forced fumble and an interception in the Saxons' double-overtime win against visiting Buffalo State.
Football Special Teams Player - St. John Fisher
Ryan Kramer, Senior, RB – Oneida, NY/Oneida
Ryan Kramer totaled 293 all-purposes yards, including a Fisher-record 187 on five kickoff returns, in the 38-35 win over Frostburg. Fisher enjoyed great field position throughout the day with five of its six touchdown-drives starting inside Bobcat territory.
Field Hockey Offensive Player – Stevens
Marguerite Chavez, Senior, Forward – Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional
Marguerite Chavez scored two goals and dished out two assists in Stevens' overtime win over Utica Saturday night. The second of the senior's two goals came 7:36 into overtime and served as the game-winner. Chavez also handed out an assist in the team's 3-2 loss at No. 1 Montclair St. Wednesday. For the week Chavez tallied seven points (two goals, three assists) and now has games with four points (twice), five points, six points and eight points this season.
Field Hockey Defensive Player – Utica
Angela Charles, Junior, Defender – Liverpool, NY/Liverpool
Angela Charles had five points in two games for the Pioneers. On Wednesday she had an assist on the opening goal in a 4-0 conference victory over Ithaca. She followed that up with two goals in Utica’s 4-3 overtime loss at Stevens. She has helped lead the Utica defense that has allowed just 1.27 goals against per game through 11 contests this year.
Men’s Cross Country Runner – Ithaca
Sean Phillips, Freshman – East Aurora, NY/East Aurora
Freshman Sean Phillips paced the Bombers to a ninth-place finish out of 20 teams Saturday at the 33rd-Annual Geneseo Invitational. He clocked a personal-best eight-kilometer time of 26:12.40 to place 22nd out of 255 runners. Phillips bettered his previous best 8K by 20 seconds.
Women’s Cross Country Runner – Stevens
Amy Regan, Sophomore – Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills
Sophomore Amy Regan placed ninth overall and first among NCAA Division III runners with a time of 21:42 on the 6K course at the Paul Short Invite. In all, 484 runners took part in the Open section and Regan finished over one minute faster than the next closest DIII participant. Regan broke the Stevens school record for 6K with her time of 21:42. Last year, her best time was 22:07 at NCAA DIII Cross Country Nationals where she placed 40th. She still remains unbeaten by DIII runners in head-to-head competition.
Men’s Golf Athlete – St. John Fisher
Thad Wier, Senior – East Aurora, NY/East Aurora
To begin the week Thad Wier finished tied for 16th overall at the illustrious 2013 Gordin Classic, while the team finished in second place overall. On a par 72 course Wier finished with a three day score of 221 (73-75-73). Wier was the top overall scorer in the ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Championship at Blue Heron Hills Country Club in Macedon, N.Y over the weekend. Wier shot a 70 in the first round and a 65 in the second round. He was eight strokes under par for the tournament. Fisher finished first overall with a combined team score of 566 (-2)
Women’s Golf Athlete – Ithaca
Kimberley Wong, Freshman – Shouson Hill Road, Hong Kong/German Swiss International)
Kimberley Wong carded a 158 at the Williams Falls Classic to finish in a tie for tenth. Wong tied her collegiate best of a 77 on the first day to lead Ithaca. She shot an 81 in the second round to rank second in the Bobmer lineup. The Bombers placed third with a team score of 643, to finish 14 strokes behind Williams and four shots behind Middlebury.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player – Stevens
Carson Pryor, Sophomore, Forward – St. Louis, MO/MICDS Loyola
Carson Pryor scored twice in a span of 1:35 early in the second half to help lead Stevens to a 4-0 win over E8 foe Nazareth Saturday. Pryor also tallied once in the team's 2-1 win at Wilkes Wednesday night to finish the week with six points on the back of three goals. The sophomore now has a team-best seven goals and 16 points this season.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player – Stevens
Zeke Hemme, Senior, Defender – Louisville, KY/St. Xavier
Senior central back Zeke Hemme led the Stevens defense this week as the Ducks went 2-0 and allowed just one goal against. Hemme was key in thwarting two Nazareth chances in Saturday's 4-0 shutout of the Golden Flyers - Stevens' fifth of the season. The Ducks have outscored the opposition 32-5 this year, allowing just .50 goals-against per outing due in large part to Hemme in the middle of the defense.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player – Houghton
Atalie Fite, Senior, MF/F – Cincinnati, OH/Home School
Atalie scored the game winning goal with one second remaining on the clock in Houghton’s 1-0 victory over Grove City. She added 2 goals and an assist in Houghton’s 7-0 win over Alfred.
Women’s’ Soccer Defensive –Ithaca
Beth Coppolecchia, Sophomore, Goalie – Katonah, NY/Somers
Sophomore Beth Coppolecchia was spectacular last week, making a career-high seven saves in the Bombers' 1-0 shutout victory over No. 9 Misericordia. Coppolecchia's performance marked her fourth shutout of the season.
Women’s Tennis co-Players - Stevens
Jessica Bourque, Junior – Houma, LA/Vandebilt Catholic
Lisa Tessitore, Senior – Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry
Jessica Bourque and Lisa Tessitore won at first doubles in all three of Stevens dual-match victories on the week. Bourque also won at first singles twice (there was no result against Ithaca as the match was stopped once decided). Tessitore won at second singles against Houghton but did not finish against Ithaca and Elmira due the match already being decided.
The duo’s biggest win of the week came on Monday, Sept 30 when they won the 2013 ITA Northeast Regional Doubles title. The historic victory gives the duo ITA All-American recognition and entry into the National Small College Championships in Fort Myers, Florida from October 10-13
th. Both are program firsts.
Women’s Volleyball Player – Stevens
Samantha Gates, Senior, Setter – Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard
Samantha Gates led Stevens to a perfect 4-0 conference weekend at Elmira with wins over the Soaring Eagles, Nazareth, St. John Fisher and Alfred. Gates handed out a total of 131 assists with 46 coming against Fisher and 42 more against Nazareth. She dished out 31 more in a sweep of Elmira. Stevens clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Championship on Nov. 9-10.
Women’s Volleyball Rookie – Hartwick
Quincy Kinzel, Freshman, Setter - Scotia, NY/Guilderland
Quincy Kinzel registered 65 assists, 26 digs, and 12 kills to help Hartwick to a 2-1 weekend at the Empire 8 Crossover. She notched 18 assists, six digs, and four kills in a five-game loss to the host Soaring Eagles on Friday. The next day, she dished out 22 assists and added 10 digs, four blocks, two aces and a kill as the Hawks defeated St. John Fisher for the first time in program history. Kinzel closed the weekend missing a triple-double by just three kills as she accumulated 25 assists, 11 digs, and seven kills in a 3-1 win over Alfred.
