Steele-Norton Becomes Highest Scorer in Program History

The Utica College field hockey team got back to its winning ways Wednesday as it downed RPI 2-0, in non-conference action. Junior
Louise Steele-Norton scored one goal to become the most prolific scorer in UC history.
The Pioneers got on the board in the 12th minute as Steele-Norton scored her team-best 11th goal of the season off a penalty corner. With the tally, she now has 112 career points, surpassing the previous record of 110, held by Shannon Rohacek '06.
Junior
Alaina Stojkovski added to the Utica lead at 53:31 as she caged her fifth goal of the season, unassisted. That was all the Pioneers needed as sophomore
Kells Casey stopped all seven shots she faced for her fourth shutout of the season.
Hannah Clough made nine saves for RPI in the loss.
Houghton 1, Nazareth 0
The Houghton Highlanders defeated Nazareth 1-0 in a non-conference field hockey match-up.
The first half saw a lot of mid-field action with Houghton getting off just five shots and Nazareth just one.
Houghton's Hannah Zgrablich broke the scoreless tie 13 minutes into the second half to give the Highlander's the win. Zgrablich scored after collecting a rebound off of Nazareth's
Mary Greco's goal pads after she made a save on a penalty corner shot. It was Zgrablich's first goal of the season.
Nazareth had two scoring opportunities in the final minutes of the game.
Sarah Wazenkewitz almost tied the game up with 3:30 left in regulation when she fired a shot into the top of the goal on a penalty corner. However, the shot was deemed to high and the goal was not allowed. Just a minute later the Golden Flyers were awarded a penalty corner and
Jordan Ritchie attempted a shot off the goalkeeper's pads but was unable to get past her.
Houghton out-shot Nazareth 12-5 and had a 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Mary Greco played all 70 minutes in goal and made seven saves for Nazareth. Houghton's Emily Thompson had two saves to earn the shutout win.
Elmira 6, Wells 0
The Elmira College field hockey team (2-7, 0-4 E8) outscored Wells College (3-10) 6-0 today.
Alli Gilbert '16 posted two goals and an assist while five different EC women scored in today's victory.
The game was scoreless for the first 15 minutes of action until
Ashley Palmer '16 got a pass from Gilbert and blasted the ball past the goal keeper to put the Soaring Eagles into the lead. The score would remain 1-0 for 15 more minutes until Gilbert put in a shot off a pass from
Becca Kraynak '16. Seconds before half-time the Purple and Gold increased the lead to three goals when
McKenna Light '14 shot the ball towards the goal and Gilbert deflected the ball into the back of the cage.
The Soaring Eagles went right back to business in the second half as Light took the ball up the middle of the field and shot the ball past the goaltender to put EC up 4-0 just 24 seconds into the half. In the 40th minute mark
Caitlin Sickau '16 found the ball in a scramble in front of the net and quickly passed it to
Sarah Watts '15 who slammed it home for a goal. Six minutes later
Emma Miklinski '17 scored her first colligate goal of her career off a pass from Watts.
The Soaring Eagles outshot Wells by a 34-3 margin in today's win. With the offensive and defensive efforts in the game goalie
Lauren Thomas '14 didn't register a single save, while
Mikayla Rebusmen '17 came in for mop-up duty for the final 17 minutes of action and produced one save. The six goals in today's action marks the most goals Elmira has scored since last season against Cedar Crest on October 15
th, 2012. This was also the largest margin of victory since the 2005 campaign, where EC put up an 8-0 shutout win against Wells College.
New Paltz 5, Stevens 4
Stevens Institute of Technology dropped a 5-4 decision to host SUNY New Paltz in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, Stevens falls to 7-4 overall, while the Hawks improve to 7-5.

Dailyn Brook led Stevens with two goals apiece, while senior forward
Marguerite Chavez notched a pair of assists. Senior back
Megan Traub dished out one helper as well.
New Paltz ended with a 30-17 edge in shots and a 16-9 margin in penalty corners.
In the 17th minute, Chavez inserted to Ridge on a penalty corner, and the senior blasted in her shot from the top of the circle to give the Ducks a short-lived 1-0 lead.
New Paltz tied the game at 17:24, but the Ducks responded with Chavez feeding Ridge on the top-right side of the circle via a penalty corner, and Ridge put home her second of the game and fifth of the season.
The Hawks knotted things at two with 5:46 remaining in the first half and took a lead they would not relinquish less than two minutes into the second.
Brook tied things at three for Stevens at 39:14, knocking in a deflected cross for her sixth goal of the year, but the hosts came back with two in a row to open a 5-3 lead with 13:24 on the clock. The fifth and final score for New Paltz came from senior Danielle Conklin who finished with three markers and a new SUNY New Paltz single-season goals mark with 17.
The Ducks were able to knock in their final goal of the contest as time expired on a penalty corner. Chavez inserted to Ridge, who flipped to Traub. The senior wound up and ripped a shot that Brook was able to put in for her second of the contest.
