Utica Opens Up 2013-14 Campaign with a Victory

Utica 5, Cazenovia 4
The Utica College men's tennis team opened up its 2013-2014 season with a 5-4 victory Wednesday against non-conference rival Cazenovia College, on the road.  Seniors Phil Pham (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) and Daniel Fadden (Lakeland, NY/Bishop Ludden) led the Pioneers as they recorded their first victories of their senior campaign in singles competition.

Pham won 6-3 and 6-2 while Fadden shutdown the Wildcats No. 3 by scores of 6-0 and 6-3.  Sophomore Raphael Warnon (Rock Tavern, NY/Washingtonville ) and junior Ryan Valle (Winthrop, ME/Winthrop High School) partnered in doubles competition and won 8-1, convincingly. 

This marks the second consecutive year the Pioneers downed Caz in Fall play.  UC returns to the courts in the Spring as it faces Ithaca College on April, 1st 2014 for an Empire 8 Conference battle in Ithaca, NY.
