ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick women's soccer team hosted SUNYIT in a non-conference match on Wednesday night at Elmore Field and came away with a 4-1 victory. The win improves the Hawks record to 5-4-3 while the Wildcats fall to 3-9.

Hartwick wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Allyson Daniels (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) crossed to Cristina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) from the right side of the goal and Sicari deposited the ball into the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 just 4:35 into the contest.

The Wildcats would make it a game later in the first half. In the 28th minute, SUNYIT's Stephanie Wurz and Hartwick defender Nicolette Wilson (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) both battled for possession. Goalie Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) came out to challenge and got tangled with Wilson which left Wurz open for the score to tie the game up.

The game would not stay tied for very long. In the 37th minute, Jayme Bentley, (Worcester, NY/Schenevus Central) sent a long pass downfield to Daniels who settled it in and hit a shot into the left corner of the goal that Wildcat goalie Margaret Werenczek couldn't stop and Hartwick was back on top, 2-1. With less than four minutes left to play in the half, Abby Wheeler (Chatham, NY/Chatham) found Kylie Thayer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) on the left side of the goal for the score and the Hawks led 3-1 at halftime.

In the second half, 'Wick had opportunities to break the game open but could not convert.  In the 50th minute, Jessica Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus Central) had a good look at a goal but just missed wide. Two and a half minutes later, Daniels nearly scored her second of the night on a pass from Sicari but it too went wide of the goal. In the 71st minute, Annie Millar (Illion, NY/Ilion) hit a long shot that glanced off of the crossbar and out of play. Alyssa Bennett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) also had a chance in front of the net but her shot went high.

Hartwick would finally convert late in the contest. With 4:25 left to play, Kristen McKasty (Bohemia, NY/Connetqout) hit a shot from outside the box that went over the outstretched hands of Werenczek and into the net for her first goal of the season.

The Hawks dominated in shots, 28-1. Only two corner kicks would be attempted in the game with both teams having one each.

Brown did not record a save in goal for Hartwick. Werenczek stopped 10 shots for the Wildcats.

'Wick is idle this weekend and will return action next Wednesday when they travel to Schenectady to face Union. Game time will be at 7 p.m.
